The White Goddess

Created by Dylan Lewis and Don Searll, this formed part of an exhibition on L’Ormerins wine estate in Franschhoek. It was displayed on an autostereoscopic screen, and this is a 2D version for youtube consumption.


  1. A fine example of modern art: a meaning too obscure to be transmitted successfully, and an ambition too vague for the creation to be deemed worthwhile.

    The wings of my soul never even bothered to unfurl, never mind lifting me up to soar in the heights of this artistic moment.

    And I mean that most contructively. 😉

  3. interesting that someone called vapour trail finds it obscure – it is beautifully clear and clearly beautiful

  4. Marble, fire, dissipation, reconstruction – repeat. What’s meaningful in that, Anna? Are you seeing a cycle of the elemental forces of Nature? If you are then look out of the window – it’s right there; it’s certainly not in this video.

  5. I think that images can impact upon us in ways that go beyond rational meaning and explanation. We spend most of our day ordering stuff into knowable parts, using the limitations of our language to ‘make sense’. I think some images can by pass language and touch on something in our subconscious, things that are less easy to categorise but which have a powerful effect upon us. For me (I think it’s different for everyone, and that’s ok too), this seemed to do exactly that – I didn’t feel like I necessarily needed to know what its meaning was. I found it beautiful and a little unnerving. Would like to see it in its full glory.
