‘Baring Witness’ Protests against increase of troops to Afghanistan

In writing ‘A Brief History of Nakedness’ (due out April 2010) I’ve devoted a chapter to the use of nakedness to draw attention to political causes – from the legendary story of Lady Godiva protesting about her own husband’s punitive taxation to modern-day protests against the Iraq war. Well here’s some news hot off the press. Donna Sheehan and Paul Refell who organised the ‘Baring Witness’ photoshoots of groups of people opposing the impending invasion of Iraq back in November 2002 have just mounted another protest against Obama’s decision to commit 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan. Here is a photo they took 2 days ago in California which they hope will travel the world with their message of Peace:
